We are in our fourth year of drought, Julian, here in Oregon. The winds you do not have, we have had most of the summer, each morning, fairly unrelentingly. Mother Nature is not happy with us humans, hard not to draw that conclusion. I love your garden, and hope to be able to visit in person again one day! Your blog with images from the amazing garden you and Fiona have created always makes me smile. I sip tea and dream of a return to England! Perhaps 2022? Suzette in Bend, Oregon
Hello Suzette,
Wonderful to hear from you again and great that you still tune in and look at some of my scribblings and images. It’s also great to hear this sort of personal feedback on how your weather in Oregon is behaving. Or not. For years now, I’ve begun to realise that it doesn’t matter what 20 or 30 year averages are for any weather parameter you can think of. Or even maximum/minimum values of the parameters, they’re getting smashed, and as you pithily suggest, we deserve what we’re getting as a species. But heck, 4 years of drought and strong winds would be really wearing! We both found it so odd, sitting down on a regular basis and thinking the particular September peace and quiet ( weather) was really odd. We’re so used to seasonal changes here.
Anyway it would indeed be wonderful to see you again sometime. I’m sure you wouldn’t recognise the garden now after all these years, but do remember we’re in Wales, not England!
Also if you visited in 2022, there’s still a chance that the Welsh Quilt Centre in Lampeter might be staging a final exhibition. Jen is now well into her 80’s but still planning to have a last show,
Best wishes to you and may the rains return and the winds abate sometime soon,
Julian and Fiona
